Institution fondée en 1530 par François Ier, à l'instigation de Guillaume Budé. Collège royal reconstruit de 1774 à 1777 par l'architecte Jean-François Chalgrin. Nouveaux bâtiments construits de 1837 à 1842 par l'architecte Paul-Marie Letarouilly. La statue de Guillaume Budé par le sculpteur Urbain Bourgeois date de 1883. La voûte de la galerie-portique de Letarouilly est décorée en style pompéien par Urbain Bourgeois, avec le peintre Louis Hista, en 1891. Les laboratoires de chimie et deux amphithéâtres sont ajoutés par les architectes Albert Guilbert et son fils Jacques, de 1938 à 1946, suivis, en 1958, du bâtiment de biologie, construit par l'architecte André Leconte. Résultat d'une commande de l'Etat, les quatre pièces de l'administrateur, au premier étage du bâtiment Chalgrin, comprenant un cabinet de travail et un salon de réception, sont décorées et meublées en 1938 par une équipe comprenant les architectes-décorateurs Francis Jourdain, Pierre Chareau, Louis Sognot et Jacques Adnet.

Institution founded in 1530 by François Ier, at the instigation of Guillaume Budé. Royal College rebuilt from 1774 to 1777 by architect Jean-François Chalgrin. New buildings constructed from 1837 to 1842 by architect Paul-Marie Letarouilly. The statue of Guillaume Budé by sculptor Urbain Bourgeois dates from 1883. The vault of the Letarouilly gallery-portico is decorated in Pompeian style by Urbain Bourgeois, with painter Louis Hista, in 1891. The chemistry laboratories and two amphitheatres were added by architects Albert Guilbert and his son Jacques, from 1938 to 1946, followed, in 1958, by the biology building, constructed by architect André Leconte. Result of a commission from the State, the four rooms of the administrator, on the first floor of the Chalgrin building, comprising a study and a reception room, were decorated and furnished in 1938 by a team comprising architect-decorators Francis Jourdain, Pierre Chareau, Louis Sognot and Jacques Adnet.
