Philippe Digeon de Montaton, député du Lot et Garonne en 1814, sollicite de Louis XVIII la faveur de lui offrir une statue de Henri IV qui serait érigée à Nérac à ses frais. Le sculpteur Nicolas-Bernard Raggi, élève de Bartolini, réalise la statue qui arrive à Nérac en 1823, placée à l'origine face à l'ancien château. La statue de bronze mesure 3, 20m de hauteur. Henri IV est représenté en armure, son casque empanaché à ses pieds, le bras droit tendu en signe de clémence, la main gauche sur la poignée de son sabre en signe de puissance.

History
Philippe Digeon de Montaton, deputy for Lot-et-Garonne in 1814, requested of Louis XVIII the favour of offering him a statue of Henri IV which would be erected in Nérac at his own expense. The sculptor Nicolas-Bernard Raggi, pupil of Bartolini, produced the statue which arrived in Nérac in 1823, originally placed facing the old castle. The bronze statue measures 3.20m in height. Henri IV is represented in armour, his plumed helmet at his feet, his right arm outstretched as a sign of clemency, his left hand on the hilt of his sabre as a sign of power.
