Etablie sans doute sur des fondations plus anciennes, contemporaines de la création de la bastide, l'église est bâtie selon un plan caractérisant l'école languedocienne avec les chapelles logées dans les contreforts intérieurs. Le choeur, à pans coupés, est désaxé par rapport à la nef. Les voûtes d'ogives retombent sur de gros piliers ronds sculptés qui reçoivent également, en pénétration, les arcs brisés ouvrant sur les chapelles. Lors de la fondation du couvent de Saint-François d'Assise de l'Observance, en 1623, l'église paroissiale lui fut cédée pour la célébration des offices. Le couvent, disparu, jouxtait l'église au sud.

History
Established no doubt on older foundations, contemporary with the creation of the bastide, the church is built according to a plan characterizing the Languedoc school with chapels housed in the interior buttresses. The choir, with cut angles, is offset with respect to the nave. The rib vaults rest on large round sculpted pillars which also receive, in interpenetration, the broken arches opening onto the chapels. When the convent of Saint-François d'Assise of the Observance was founded in 1623, the parish church was ceded to it for the celebration of offices. The convent, now disappeared, adjoined the church to the south.
