Ambrus est cité dès 1259. A l'exception de la guerre de Cent ans et de la Révolution qui découronna son donjon, le château ne semble pas avoir souffert des événements de l'histoire régionale. Un donjon carré domine l'ensemble des constructions où se retrouvent quelques éléments des anciennes fortifications médiévales (archères, tours, échauguettes...). Des bâtiment s'appuient de part et d'autre de la tour et sont soudés sur la façade ouest par une grande salle barlongue à deux niveaux formant galerie. Les communs sont disposés en retour d'équerre contre cette partie, et déterminent avec les murs d'enceinte une cour carrée dont l'accès est défendu, à l'ouest, par un châtelet d'entrée avec bretèche.

History
Ambrus is mentioned as early as 1259. With the exception of the Hundred Years' War and the Revolution which removed its keep, the château does not seem to have suffered from the events of regional history. A square keep dominates all the constructions where some elements of the old medieval fortifications are found (arrow slits, towers, watch towers...). Buildings rest on either side of the tower and are joined on the west façade by a large two-storeyed oblong hall forming a gallery. The outbuildings are arranged at right angles against this part, and together with the surrounding walls determine a square courtyard whose access is defended on the west by an entrance gatehouse with bretèche.
