Cette église dépendait d'un couvent de Bénédictins établi à La Réole. Edifiée par les Anglais en remplacement d'une autre église dont l'élévation nuisait à la citadelle bâtie par Henry II, elle ne fut recouverte que d'une simple charpente, à l'exception du sanctuaire voûté. Cette église fut démolie presque entièrement par les Protestants en 1577. Relevée en partie vers 1608, elle fut agrandie en 1650. Les Bénédictins décidèrent que la nef serait voûtée en 1682. Le portail forme l'antéfixe du transept nord. La nef contient quatre autels latéraux, peints à fresque. History
This church belonged to a convent of Benedictines established at La Réole. Built by the English in replacement of another church whose elevation was detrimental to the citadel built by Henry II, it was covered only with a simple roof structure, with the exception of the vaulted sanctuary. This church was demolished almost entirely by the Protestants in 1577. Partly rebuilt around 1608, it was enlarged in 1650. The Benedictines decided that the nave would be vaulted in 1682. The portal forms the antéfixe of the north transept. The nave contains four side altars, painted in fresco. Two galleries are arranged on each side, within the thickness of the walls and above the arcades of the transept. The vault was executed from 1685 to 1687. The arches rest on clustered columns, with capitals decorated with fantastic animals. To the east of each transept is a chapel whose chevet is constructed in a hemicycle with six angles. That of the south transept was founded in 1437 and presents vault keys carved openwork. The perimeter of the choir is surrounded by a gallery. Frescoes relate the life of Saint Peter.
