Historique
Le château, l'une des plus importantes forteresses de la Guyenne, appartint pendant longtemps aux ducs de Duras. L'édifice, de plan irrégulier, était précédé d'une basse-cour fortifiée. Il ne subsiste que des murailles épaulées de contreforts et une bastille en forme de demi-lune qui défendait l'entrée. Appuyé au sud de l'enceinte, le château présente les ruines d'un donjon accolé à une tour cylindrique, et un corps de logis flanqué d'une tourelle d'escalier. Les angles des courtines sont défendus par des tours carrées. Toutes les constructions ne semblent pas remonter au-delà du 14e siècle. History
The castle, one of the most important fortresses of Guyenne, belonged for a long time to the Dukes of Duras. The edifice, of irregular plan, was preceded by a fortified bailey. There remain only walls reinforced with buttresses and a bastion in the form of a half-moon which defended the entrance. Leaning against the south of the enclosure, the castle presents the ruins of a keep attached to a cylindrical tower, and a main dwelling flanked by a staircase turret. The angles of the curtain walls are defended by square towers. All the buildings do not appear to date back beyond the 14th century. The exterior windows of the keep are from the 15th century, as is the spiral staircase of the dwelling.
