History

The present château is said to have been built between 1706 and 1714. Together with its outbuildings, the château constitutes a wine-growing estate which was exploited until the disappearance of the vine. The buildings are arranged for rational and self-sufficient use. A hornbeam hedge, which no longer forms part of the estate, led to the entrance gate which closes off a large courtyard, bounded to the north by the château, and to the east and west by the outbuildings. The château consists of a main dwelling with two levels, flanked by two pavilions. The internal layout was modified, no doubt in the late 19th century or early 20th century. The eastern outbuildings incorporated an old farm which comprised two small courtyards. To the east of the outbuildings lies a large enclosed kitchen garden. In the north-east corner of the courtyard, there is a well with a roof and a superstructure composed of four square pillars supporting a slab. On either side of the gate, two cisterns were dug, fed by gutters which collect water expelled by the gargoyles of the outbuildings. These basins were used to water the animals and wash the barrels.
