History
Villa designed in 1932 by Eileen Gray, the second of the two only villas conceived by this architect and decorator. Imagined as that of a place of rest (tempe a païa = time to yawn in Menton dialect), the design of the furniture - concealable, extensible and modular - associates itself with that of the architectural envelope. The villa was acquired in 1954 by English painter Graham Sutherland (1903-1980) who added a large studio on the site of the old garden. Part of the Eileen Gray furniture is still in place.
