En 1918, Emile Ladan-Bockairy et sa femme achètent une propriété appartenant au philosophe Fouillée. Ils invitent leur ami Ferdinand Bac (1859-1952) , caricaturiste, décorateur, peintre, ferronnier, écrivain et paysagiste, à reconstruire et à agrandir la villa. Sa conception se nourrit de références antiques et de souvenirs de voyages en pays méditerranéens. Autour de la maison, Bac conçoit aussi le jardin, riche en fabriques, pavillons, colonnades, ponts et autres jardins secrets. Bac s'installe définitivement aux Colombières et y finit ses jours. Le mausolée édifié sur un rocher qui domine le jardin contient les tombes des trois amis.

History
In 1918, Emile Ladan-Bockairy and his wife purchase a property belonging to the philosopher Fouillée. They invite their friend Ferdinand Bac (1859-1952), caricaturist, decorator, painter, ironsmith, writer and landscape designer, to rebuild and enlarge the villa. His conception is nourished by ancient references and memories of travels in Mediterranean countries. Around the house, Bac also designs the garden, rich in follies, pavilions, colonnades, bridges and other secret gardens. Bac settles permanently at Les Colombières and ends his days there. The mausoleum erected on a rock overlooking the garden contains the tombs of the three friends.
