The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Porin VI kaupunginosa on yksi laajimmista ja yhtenäisistä puisista ruutukaavaan perustuvista 1800-luvun lopun esikaupunkialueista Suomessa.

Päärnäisten eli Kuukkarin esikaupunkialueen kaava työläisten ja vähävaraisten asuinalueeksi Porin vanhan ruutukaava-alueen ulkopuolelle on vuodelta 1864. Säännöllisen ruutukaavan sisällä on kaksi puistokorttelia ja yksi poikittainen puistokatu. Tontit ovat erittäin pieniä.

Päärnäisten puinen, katutilaa tiiviisti rajaava rakennuskanta on pääasiassa 1800- ja 1900-lukujen vaihteen molemmilta puolin. Pihoilla on säilynyt runsaasti tontteja rajaavia ulkorakennuksia.

Rakennuskannasta mainittakoon arkkitehti Onni von Zansenin 1900-luvun alussa suunnittelema Nummi-yhtiö, Riihikatu 10-12, jonka kaksi puista asuinrakennusta täyttävät yhden korttelin muodostaen sisäänsä suojatun pihan. Svensbergin ukkokoti, Kalevanpuisto 13 on rakennettu iäkkäiden työmiesten kodiksi. Myös uudisrakentamista on tapahtunut, mm. muutama asuinkerrostalo. Viime vuosina on alueelle rakennettu uusia kaksikerroksisia puutaloja.

Asemakaavan laati maanmittari J. H. Wahlroos.

Uuden alueen eli VI kaupunginosan sijoituksesta pyydettiin lausunto lääninarkkitehti G. Th. Chiewitziltä. 1891 kaupunginosaa laajennettiin itäpuolelle. Ukkokoti on rakennettu kauppias Svensbergin testamenttilahjoituksen turvin ja valmistui arkkitehti August Krookin suunnitelmin 1900.

Pori VI district is one of the largest and most cohesive wooden grid-plan suburban areas from the late 19th century in Finland.

The plan for the Päärnäiset or Kuukkari suburban area, intended as a residential area for workers and people of modest means outside the old grid-plan area of Pori, dates from 1864. Within the regular grid plan there are two park blocks and one transverse park street. The plots are very small.

The wooden building stock of Päärnäiset, which closely frames the street space, dates mainly from both sides of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Many outbuildings delimiting the plots have survived in the courtyards.

Among the building stock, mention may be made of the Nummi-yhtiö, Riihikatu 10-12, designed in the early 20th century by architect Onni von Zansen, whose two wooden residential buildings fill one block, forming a sheltered courtyard within. Svensbergin ukkokoti, Kalevanpuisto 13, was built as a home for elderly workingmen. New construction has also taken place, e.g. a few residential apartment blocks. In recent years, new two-storey wooden houses have been built in the area.

The V district on the east side of the Ruutukaava area was fully built up in the latter half of the 19th century. Päärnäinen was chosen as the direction for the town's expansion, even though it lay far from the main industrial workplaces.

The background was a fire that destroyed the town in 1852 and gave rise to the so-called kuoppakaupunki along Turun tie, which was inhabited by the poorer population who had lost their homes and property. To replace the kuoppa-asumuksia, Päärnäinen, that is the 6th district, was later zoned. The town plan was drawn up by land surveyor J. H. Wahlroos.

A statement on the siting of the new area, that is the VI district, was requested from provincial architect G. Th. Chiewitz. In 1891 the district was extended to the east. Ukkokoti was built with the help of the testamentary gift of merchant Svensberg, and was completed to the designs of architect August Krook in 1900.
