Kuvaus
Asuntotuotannon valtuuskunta (Arava) perustettiin 1949.
Porissa aravatuotannon alueeksi valittiin 9. kaupunginosa, Riihiketo.

Description
Riihikedo's uniform residential area represents early ARA-subsidised housing production.
The three-storey lamellitalot and seven-storey point blocks of Riihikedo, the ninth district of Pori, are arranged in a fan shape around a small central park.
Riihiketo was completed after the wars according to the town plan drawn up by architect Jaakko Laaksovirta. Building design was mainly the responsibility of architects Jussi Lappi-Seppälä and Iikka Martas.
History
After the wars, the population of towns, market towns and rural municipalities grew as a result of migration. In the countryside, the possibilities for small-scale new construction could be resolved. In the towns, the problem with rapid construction was a shortage of capital and industrial capacity.
The Housing Production Board (Arava) was established in 1949. It was a state body to which both the financing of housing production and the letting of the new dwellings were centralised. The system was intended to get housing production going especially in urban centres. Arava granted state-supported loans to all builders, from private to public.
In Pori, the 9th district, Riihiketo, was chosen as the area for Arava-funded production. The area had a perimeter block town plan made by Harald Andersin in the 1920s, which was renewed in 1938. The first new building was completed in 1947. The group of point blocks bordering the central park was ready in 1952.
