The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Kirkko on muodoltaan päätytornillinen pitkäkirkko, jonka siipirakennuksessa on seurakuntasali.

Länsi-Naukio on 1922 - 1923 rakennettu työväenasuinalue. Sitä täydentävät Naukiontien paritalot 1940-luvun lopulta. Aluetta sivuava kevyenliikenteen väylä seuraa kapearaiteisen junaradan linjausta. Sudeetti edustaa yhtiön korkeatasoista asuntotuotantoa vuoden 1945 vaiheilta. Yhtenäinen, alkujaan kuudenkymmenen yhden perheen asunnon pientaloalue on säilyttänyt ominaispiirteensä hyvin.

Kotiseututaloksi siirretty kansallisromanttinen kansakoulu ja Kettumäen työväenasuntomuseo todistavat tehdasyhteisön oman perinteen tallentamisesta.

Kymin ja Kuusankosken paperitehtaat perustettiin 1872. Paperikonesalit voimalaitoksineen ja muine osastoineen sijoitettiin reunustamaan koskea sen molemmin puolin, mikä teki Kuusankosken tehdasmaisemasta yhden tunnusomaisimmista suomalaisessa teollisuudessa. Tehtaat yhdistyivät 1904 Kymiyhtiöksi, johon sisältyi kolmantena yksikkönä pohjoisempi Voikkaan tehdas (Ks. Voikkaan teollisuusalue -kohde). Pääosa entisistä Kymiyhtiön tuotantolaitoksista alkoi toimia vuodesta 1996 alkaen osana UPM-Kymmenettä.

Kuusankosken teollisuuspaikkakunta erotettiin itsenäiseksi seurakunnaksi 1919 osista Valkealan ja Iitin seurakuntia. Arkkitehti Armas Lindgrenin suunnittelema kirkko valmistui 1929.

The founding of the Kymi and Kuusankoski paper mills in 1872 is a significant stage in the breakthrough of industrial production in Finland. The various parts of the mill community contain building activity from different periods, carried out either by the mill company or supported in various forms, which has considerable cultural-historical significance for industrial history, the industrial landscape and the company's residential construction.

The Kuusankoski paper industry community has grown on both sides of the Kymijoki river, so that the town centre with its services spreads widely to the northwest of Kuusaansaari. Kuusaansaari and the Kymintehdas on its south side form the industrial-historical core and focal point of the landscape. The buildings of the Kuusaansaari production area date from the 1880s to the 1940s, as do the buildings on the Kymintehdas side with their hydroelectric power plants and the 1930s head offices.

In the vicinity of the production area are the villa-like white-collar housing of Mustavuori from the early 20th century. The factory club Koskela and the eastern residences are representative post-war construction. Koskenranta is a park-like management residential area from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Residential buildings of various ages, from apartment blocks to wooden houses, are located along Lauttakatu, Marskinkatu and Niementie, and around Puistokatu - Kansatie.

The company's public-character building projects include, among others, the monumental town hall and the company's vocational school. The church is located on Valtakatu near the town hall, among tall trees, within its sturdily fenced plot. The church is a long church with a tower at the end, with a parish hall in its wing building. The outer walls' bricks are lightly slammed, and they are arranged with light-coloured lesenes and tall, narrow windows.

The residential areas form uniform groups of houses and area ensembles. Länsi-Naukio is a working-class residential area built in 1922 - 1923. It is complemented by the Naukiontie semi-detached houses from the late 1940s. The light-traffic route bordering the area follows the alignment of the narrow-gauge railway. Sudeetti represents the company's high-standard housing production from the period of 1945. The uniform small-house area, originally of sixty single-family dwellings, has retained its characteristic features well.

The National Romantic kansakoulu, relocated to serve as a local heritage house, and the Kettumäki workers' housing museum testify to the preservation of the factory community's own tradition.

The Kymi and Kuusankoski paper mills were founded in 1872. The paper machine halls, with their power plants and other departments, were placed on both banks of the rapids, which made the factory landscape of Kuusankoski one of the most characteristic in Finnish industry. In 1904 the mills merged into Kymiyhtiö, which included, as its third unit, the more northerly Voikkaa factory (See Voikkaan teollisuusalue entry). Most of the former Kymiyhtiö production plants began operating as part of UPM-Kymmene from 1996 onwards.

The industrial locality of Kuusankoski was separated from the parishes of Valkeala and Iitti in 1919 to become an independent parish. The church designed by architect Armas Lindgren was completed in 1929. Kymiyhtiö's social building activity, aimed at improving the housing conditions of its workforce, was exceptionally extensive and progressive throughout the first half of the 20th century. The company's influence on the structure and building projects of the whole community was strong until the 1950s.
