The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Vanha selluloosatehdas on vuosilta 1912-36 ja sulfiittispriitehdas 1919 (S.A. Lindqvist). Vesivoimalaitos on rakennettu vanhimmilta osin 1922 (B. Federley).

Lindqvist). Entinen pääkonttori, ns. Mestarikerho on vuodelta 1899 samoin kuin lähistöllä oleva työläiskasarmikin. Tehtaan vanha, punatiilinen paloasema on rakennettu 1913 (V. Thomé).

Tehdasalueeseen liittyvä Myllytien varren edustava kerrostaloalue 1950-luvun alusta on arkkitehtitoimisto B. Liljequist - A. Helanderin tuotantoa.

Paperintuotanto loppui Voikkaan tehtaalla 2006.

The Voikka factories are part of the wide industrial area of Kymenlaakso, which is dominated by the forest industry. The groundwood mill and paper mill were established in 1897, and the oldest production buildings of the industrial area date from that period. Together with the newest factory buildings, they form a varied complex rich in architectural heritage. The area also contains numerous buildings belonging to a traditional industrial community, whose designers have been the leading architects of their time.

From the paper mill completed in 1902 (Gesellius-Lindgren-Saarinen), only the east facade with its round corner towers has survived after a fire. The old cellulose factory dates from 1912-36, and the sulphite spirit factory from 1919 (S.A. Lindqvist). The hydroelectric power station was built in its oldest parts in 1922 (B. Federley). The newer production buildings are high-quality industrial architecture of the 1950s.

The Virkamiesklubi and Ruiskumestarintalo date from 1919 and 1918 (S.A. Lindqvist). The former head office, the so-called Mestarikerho, dates from 1899, as does the nearby workers' barracks. The old red-brick fire station of the factory was built in 1913 (V. Thomé).

The representative apartment block area from the early 1950s along Myllytie, linked to the factory area, is the work of the architectural office B. Liljequist - A. Helander.

The first groundwood mills and paper and board mills were established in the Kymijokilaakso valley in the 1870s. Railway decisions made in the latter half of the 1880s, and especially the opening of the Savon rata in 1889, accelerated the emergence of new production plants along the Kymijoki. Among these was the Voikkaa factory, founded in 1897, which began operations a year later. In 1904 the production activity, comprising a groundwood mill and a paper mill, was expanded with a sulphite pulp mill.

The founder of the Voikkaa factories was varatuomari Rudolf Elving, principal owner of Tampereen Kattohuopatehdas Oy. The three competing factories in Kuusankoski, Kymiyhtiö, Kuusankoski-yhtiö and Voikkaa, merged in 1904 into Kymin Osakeyhtiö. It was then the largest joint-stock company in Finland and the largest paper manufacturer in the Nordic countries. Most of the production plants of Kymiyhtiö began operating from 1996 onwards as part of UPM-Kymmene. Paper production at the Voikkaa factory ended in 2006.
