The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Pienen Pernajanlahden pohjukan maisema on säilyttänyt linnankäytönaikaisen ilmeensä. Husholmenin linnalta avautuu laaja näkymä, joka kuvastaa alueen keskiaikaista asutusrakennetta, maisemassa näkyy yksinomaan jo 1300-luvulla lopulla olemassa olleita kyliä pienine viljelyalueineen.

Porvoon Husholmenin keskiaikainen linnasaari sijaitsee Pienen Pernajanlahden pohjukassa noin kilometrin päässä Ilolanjoen suulta. Linnan uloimpana varustuksena on kolminkertainen vedenalainen paalu-/ estevarustus. Jyrkkäpiirteinen kalliosaari jakaantuu esi- ja päälinnaosaan. Kallion alemmalla tasanteella sijaitsevaan esilinnaan on päästy rannassa olevan porttivarustuksen kautta.

The agency's own Swedish text. The English below is made from the Finnish.

Husholmen is one of the best-preserved castle sites of the Kingdom of Sweden from the second half of the 14th century. What makes Husholmen exceptionally valuable is that the site has remained almost entirely untouched since it was abandoned. The landscape at the head of the small Pernajanlahti bay has retained its appearance from the time the castle was in use. The view from Husholmen castle is extensive and reflects the medieval settlement pattern of the area: the landscape shows only villages that already existed at the end of the 14th century, with their small cultivated areas.

The medieval castle island of Husholmen in Porvoo lies at the head of Pienen Pernajanlahti, about one kilometre from the mouth of the Ilolanjoki. The outermost fortification of the castle is a triple underwater pile/barrier fortification. The steep rocky island is divided into an outer castle section and a main castle section. The outer castle, on the lower terrace of the rock, was reached through a gate fortification on the shore. Only a terrace measuring 20 x 15 metres and the foundation of a small building are visible above ground in the outer castle. Of the main castle on the summit of the rock, a castle courtyard measuring 20 x 20 metres survives, with the foundation of a tower and three building foundations associated with it. Husholmen offers very great opportunities for present and future castle archaeology.

The Husholmen castle island was certainly in use in the second half of the 14th century, probably in the 1380s and 1390s. The dating is based on the artefacts recovered in archaeological excavations in 1996 and on dendrochronological samples taken from the pile structure in 1998. No medieval documentary sources can be linked to the castle with certainty, but the site is possibly the Wartholm mentioned in a few letters from the mid-1390s, described as “new castle in Uusimaa”.
