Kuvaus
Parolannummi on poikkeuksellisen pitkään sotaväen kokoontumis- ja harjoituskenttänä toiminut leirialue, josta on kehittynyt pysyvä majoitus- ja harjoitusalue. Parolannummi on toiminut lisäksi monien merkittävien historiallisten tapahtumien näyttämönä.
Kuiva ja pääosin avoin kangaskenttä on edelleen alkuperäisessä käytössään. Alueella on muutamia puolustusvoimain varastorakennuksia. Alueen etelälaidalla on Aleksanteri II:n 1863 tekemän sotaväen katselmuksen kunniaksi pystytetty muistomerkki, Parolan leijona. Samaan aikaan annetun kieliasetuksen 100-vuotisjuhlassa 1963 paljastettu muistokivi on samalla alueella leijonapatsaan kanssa.
Historia
Hämeen linnan laitumet sijaitsivat ainakin jo Kustaa Vaasan aikana Nummen kylän alueella. 30-vuotisen sodan aikana 1600-luvulla Parolannummelle koottiin seudun jalkaväkimiehet ja hakkapeliitat. Sotaväen harjoituskenttänä Parolannummen käyttö alkoi 1777.
Ruotsin kuningas Kustaa III vieraili leirillä kolmasti seuraamassa harjoituksia ja Kustaa IV Adolf kerran. Vallan vaihtumisen jälkeen Venäjän keisari Aleksanteri I vieraili Parolannummella kerran ja Aleksanteri II kahdesti.
1863 kesäleirillä tapasivat Venäjän keisari Aleksanteri II ja J.W. Snellman toisensa. Tämän tapaamisen seurauksena keisari allekirjoitti Hämeenlinnan lääninhallituksen talossa 1.8.1863 julkaistun asetuksen, jonka mukaan suomen kieli tuli maassamme yhdenvertaiseksi ruotsin kanssa.
Aleksanteri II:n vierailun kunniaksi Parolannummelle pystytettiin 1868 ruotsalaisen kuvanveistäjän Andreas Fornanderin tekemä pronssileijona eli Parolan leijona. Pronssileijonan pystyttäminen pyrittiin yhdistämään myös kieliasetukseen. Kieliasetuksen satavuotisjuhlassa 1963 samalle paikalle paljastettiin suomen kielen oikeuksien kivi.

Description
Parolannummi is a camp area that served as an army assembly and exercise field for an exceptionally long time, and from which a permanent accommodation and training area has developed. Parolannummi has also served as the stage for many significant historical events.
The dry, mostly open field is still in its original use. The area has a few Finnish Defence Forces storehouse buildings. On the southern edge of the area is the memorial, the Parola Lion, erected in honour of the army review carried out by Aleksanteri II in 1863. The memorial stone unveiled in 1963 at the centenary of the language decree issued at the same time is in the same area as the lion statue.
History
The pastures of Hämeen linna were located in the area of Nummi village already during the time of Kustaa Vaasa. During the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century, the district's infantrymen and the Hakkapeliitat were gathered at Parolannummi. The use of Parolannummi as an army exercise field began in 1777.
The Swedish king Kustaa III visited the camp three times to observe the exercises, and Kustaa IV Adolf once. After the change of power, the Russian Emperor Aleksanteri I visited Parolannummi once and Aleksanteri II twice.
At the 1863 summer camp, the Russian Emperor Aleksanteri II and J.W. Snellman met one another. As a result of this meeting, the emperor signed, in the building of the Hämeenlinna Provincial Government, the decree published on 1.8.1863, under which the Finnish language became equal to Swedish in Finland.
In honour of Aleksanteri II's visit, a bronze lion by the Swedish sculptor Andreas Fornander, also called the Parola Lion, was erected at Parolannummi in 1868. An attempt was also made to link the erection of the bronze lion with the language decree. At the centenary of the language decree in 1963, the Stone of the Rights of the Finnish Language was unveiled on the same spot.
