Kuvaus
Riihimäen Lasin tehdasalue on yksi harvoista uudemmista lasiteollisuuden edustajista Suomessa.
Etäämpänä näistä on entinen Alatehdas, jossa toimii valtakunnallinen lasimuseo.
Tehdasalueella on yhtiön perustamisvaiheesta jäljellä ainoastaan hiomo, jonka ohella vanhinta rakennuskantaa ovat 1919 valmistunut entinen ikkunalasitehdas ja Yrjö Sadeniemen suunnittelema, 1920 valmistunut konttori. Viimeisintä vaihetta edustavat ikkunalasitehtaaseen liittyvät 1970-luvun laajennukset.
Tehtaan portille johtava lehmusten ja vaahteroiden reunustama puukuja on Lasin alueen pääakseli, joka erottaa työväen asuinalueen tehtaan johdon asuinnoista.
Historia
Alunperin Polttoturve Oy:n turvejauhetehtaaksi 1914 pystytetty rakennus kunnostetettiin lasitehtaan tarpeisiin 1929.

Description
The Riihimäen Lasi factory area is one of the few newer representatives of the glass industry in Finland. The area forms a whole which comprises, in addition to production buildings, administrative and residential buildings and building stock related to community services, mainly from the 1910s and 1920s.
The glassworks area is located along the road leading west from Riihimäki station. Alongside the production buildings, the area comprises the workers' residential area from the time the glassworks was founded, the so-called Hyttikortteli, and residential buildings of the factory management. Further away from these is the former Alatehdas, which houses the national glass museum.
Of the company's founding phase, only the grinding shop (hiomo) remains in the factory area. Alongside it, the oldest building stock comprises the former window glass factory, completed in 1919, and the office designed by Yrjö Sadeniemi and completed in 1920. The most recent phase is represented by the 1970s extensions related to the window glass factory.
The wooden avenue leading to the factory gate, lined with limes and maples, is the main axis of the Lasi area, separating the workers' residential area from the factory management's residences.
History
The joint-stock company Osakeyhtiö Riihimäki began operations in 1910. In 1939 its trade name became Riihimäen Lasi Oy. The factory produced household glassware and crystal and, from 1919, window glass, as its production lines diversified. The company's operations ended in 1990.
The Hyttikortteli block, with its residential, sauna and bakery buildings, was built in 1910-1916, and the management residences Maikkila and Lehmushovi were built in 1910 and 1911. The designer was the factory's technical director and founder, M. A. Kolehmainen.
The Suomen lasimuseo was completed in 1981 to designs by Tapio Wirkkala, in the former Alatehdas of the glassworks. The building, originally erected in 1914 as the peat powder factory of Polttoturve Oy, was renovated for the needs of the glassworks in 1929.
