The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Hautausmaan monumentaalinen pääportti on verhoiltu punaisella graniitilla. Pääportilta johtaa kuusikujanne kupolikattoiselle siunauskappelille. Pääporttia vastapäätä oleva arkkitehti F.L. Caloniuksen suunnittelema puuleikkauksin varustettu koristeellinen rakennus vuodelta 1889 on toiminut hautaustilaisuuksiin saapuneen saattoväen odotustilana ja seurakuntien ylipuutarhurin asuntona.

Viime sotien sankarihauta-alueen patsaineen on suunnitellut arkkitehti Viljo Revell ja kuvanveistäjä Arvi Tynys. Muista julkisista muistomerkeistä merkittävimpiä ovat Evert Porilan suunnittelema Vapaussodan sankaripatsas (1921) ja Jussi Hietasen vakaumuksensa puolesta kaatuneiden muistomerkki (1941). Lisäksi hautausmaalla on Ruotsalaisen prikaatin, elokuvateatteri Imatran palon ja höyrylaiva Kurun haaksirikon muistomerkit.

Kalevankankaan hautausmaa vihittiin 1880. Hautausmaan pääportti valmistui 1937 arkkitehti Bertel Strömmerin piirtämänä ja siihen liittyvät reliefit valmisti kuvanveistäjä Gunnar Finne. Arkkitehtitoimisto W.G. Palmqvist ja Sjöströmin suunnittelema siunauskappeli valmistui 1914. Kappelia laajennettiin ja se muutettiin krematorioksi 1967. Viereen rakennettiin toinen kappelisali 1984 (arkkitehti Antero Sirviö). Sisällisodan 1918 taistelut jättivät jälkensä hautausmaan muistomerkkeihin.

Kalevankangas cemetery is a representative example of cemeteries separated from churches and settlements at the end of the 19th century. The parts of Kalevankangas cemetery built at different times reflect changes not only in burial customs but also in the aesthetic ideals of garden art and grave monuments.

Figures of importance to Finland's intellectual and material culture are buried at Kalevankangas

The cemetery at Kalevankangas, consecrated in 1880, is made up of parts shaped by different burial practices and planting styles. It has been extended five times; the memorial plot from 1970 is the youngest of the areas. The monumental main gate of the cemetery is clad in red granite. A spruce avenue leads from the main gate to the domed funeral chapel. Opposite the main gate stands the ornate building from 1889, designed by architect F.L. Calonius and decorated with wood carvings. It has served as a waiting room for mourners arriving at burial services and as the residence of the parishes' head gardener.

The statue in the heroes' grave area from the recent wars was designed by architect Viljo Revell and sculptor Arvi Tynys. Among the other public memorials, the most significant are the Hero Statue of the War of Independence (1921), designed by Evert Porila, and the memorial to those who died for their convictions (1941) by Jussi Hietanen. In addition, the cemetery has memorials to the Swedish Brigade, to the Imatra cinema fire and to the wreck of the steamship Kuru.

Kalevankangas cemetery was consecrated in 1880. The main gate of the cemetery was completed in 1937 to a design by architect Bertel Strömmer, and the related reliefs were made by sculptor Gunnar Finne. The funeral chapel designed by the architectural office W.G. Palmqvist and Sjöström was completed in 1914. The chapel was extended and converted into a crematorium in 1967. A second chapel hall was built next to it in 1984 (architect Antero Sirviö). The battles of the 1918 Civil War left their mark on the cemetery's memorials.
