The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Kultaranta on tunnettujen arkkitehtien, kuvanveistäjien ja muotoilijoiden luoma 1910-luvun ihanteiden mukainen kokonaistaideteos, johon kuuluu meren rannassa maisemaa hallitseva graniittilinna, sen edustalla levittäytyvä muotopuutarha ja mereen rajoittuva puisto. Vauraan suurliikemiehen yksityiseksi kesänviettopaikaksi rakennettu Kultaranta toimii Tasavallan presidentin kesäasuntona.

Mäen laella seisova jyhkeä tornillinen päärakennus sijoittuu barokin tapaan muotopuutarhan "Medaljongin" keskiakselin päätteeksi. Medaljongin ruusutarhaa ympäröi leikattu kuusiaita. Terassipuutarha ja eteläpuoleisella tasangolla suomalaisittain loistelias aksiaalinen muotopuutarha on toteutettu samanaikaisesti linnan rakentamisen kanssa.

Kultarantaan kuuluu useita asuin- ja talousrakennuksia, kasvihuoneita, puutarhaviljelyksiä ja metsää. Päärakennuksessa on yhteensä 19 huonetta, joista juhla- ja asuinhuoneet sijoittuvat alakertaan ja makuu- ja vierashuoneet yläkertaan. Alakerrasta johtavat marmoriportaat torniin.

Kultaranta is a total work of art created by well-known architects, sculptors and designers in the ideals of the 1910s. It comprises a granite castle dominating the landscape on the seashore, a formal parterre garden spreading in front of it, and a park bordering the sea. Built as a private summer residence for a wealthy businessman, Kultaranta serves as the summer residence of the President of the Republic.

The imposing main building with a tower, standing on top of the hill, is placed in the manner of the Baroque at the end of the central axis of the formal garden 'Medaljongi'. The rose garden of Medaljongi is surrounded by a clipped spruce hedge. The terrace garden and, on the southern plain, a formal axial garden that is splendid by Finnish standards, were implemented at the same time as the castle was built.

Kultaranta includes several residential and service buildings, greenhouses, horticultural plots and forest. The main building has 19 rooms in total, of which the reception and living rooms are on the ground floor and the bedrooms and guest rooms on the upper floor. Marble stairs lead from the ground floor up to the tower.

Kultaranta was built in 1913-1916 by agricultural counsellor and businessman Alfred Kordelin. Kultaranta was designed by architect Lars Sonck, and its interior was designed by Gösta Kulvik. Park and garden plans were made by Svante and Paul Olsson. Pavilions, garden furnishings, sculptures and fountains were originally planned for the landscape park and formal garden, but only some of them were realised. Kordelin died only a few summers after the building was completed. Kordelin bequeathed Kultaranta as a museum, but because the art collections were too modest for this purpose, the property was donated to Turun Suomalainen Yliopistoseura. Kultaranta passed to the state in a land exchange in 1922, when the then eduskunta decided that it would be used as the summer residence of the President of the Republic.
