A brick powerhouse and wood-frame additions were demolished in 1940, and later additions obscuring the east facade were cleared in 2013.

Historical context

Col. Henry August Frambach became the first in the state to manufacture wood pulp paper in 1872 and sold his interests in 1884. Union Bag & Paper Company acquired the mill in 1899 and closed its Kaukauna operation in 1929, and Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company leased it in 1940, then owned and used it from 1945 to 2012.
