The David Hall House is a house at 25420 W. Cedar Crest Ln. near Lake Villa, built in 1931 on 4.6 acres in Eclectic, Norman and Art Deco styles. The nomination names Ralph Wesley Varney as architect and Hamlin Sons as builder.
Why it's listed
It was listed in the National Register in 2014 under criterion C, with local significance in architecture, and the nomination dates that significance to 1931, the year the house was built.
Physical character
The walls of Biesanz limestone and plaster stand on a concrete foundation under a low-pitched conical roof of lead-coated copper. A round three-story stair tower and a two-story servants' wing are part of the house, and the one-story steel and glass loggia was modified in the 1940s. The grounds include an in-ground pool, a reflecting pool and a circular driveway.
Historical context
J.B. Hall began summering in the 1890s and was in residence in 1900, and David White Hall bought adjacent land in 1915. The Halls traveled to Europe in 1928 and to Los Angeles in 1929.
