The gable-front brick building stands on a granite and concrete foundation, with granite, weatherboard and novelty siding on its walls and an asphalt roof. A shed was renovated in the 1940s and replaced by a wood-framed addition in 1977. The front of the building has a blind arcade, six-over-six double-hung windows, wrought iron railings, granite steps and a metal-faced door, with a small chimney and a Coverts Patent Bank Lock.
Historical context
The bank was chartered and founded in 1833 and served in the building until it closed in 1887, having been renamed Mystic National Bank in 1865. Its use for voting had ended by 1960; in the 1960s, Mystic Seaport showed interest in the building, and it was sold to the ICRC for one dollar. At the time of its listing it served as both a museum and a library.
