The Edward G. Budd Manufacturing Company, listed in the National Register in 2007, is a historic district of 12 contributing buildings on 70 acres at 2450 West Hunting Park Road in Philadelphia. Entrances include a Classical Revival limestone frontispiece and a Moderne style entrance with curved brick walls; an enclosed conveyor bridge crosses Hunting Park Avenue. Building P gained a 1933 addition and a rebuilt 2006 north wall; Building K's entrance was reoriented in 1965 and its windows restored in 2005-2006.
Historical context
Edward G. Budd formed the company in Philadelphia in 1912 and moved it to the Hunting Park and Wissahickon avenues site in 1917, having rented space nearby by 1914. Building K, purchased in 1922, held Budd's offices from 1923 to 1978. Budd died in 1946; Thyssen AG acquired the company in 1978, and the Hunting Park plant closed in 2003.
