Chestnut Hill is a Colonial Revival house at 1105 Windsor Rd. in Windsor Township, York County, built in 1940-1941. George Samuel Flickinger was its architect, and Paddock of California, a building firm, built it; the house was finished in 1941.
Why it's listed
It was listed in the National Register in 2001 under criterion C, with local significance in architecture. Its period of significance runs from 1936 to 1951, reflecting Roy L. Geesey's 1936 purchase of the property and 1951 modifications to the house.
Physical character
The house has sandstone walls and foundation, wood trim, and an asbestos-cement roof, under a gambrel roof with a large cross-gable, four bay windows, and ten dormers. Inside, an elliptical two-story front hall holds a spiral staircase, and the first-floor walls are sandstone sixteen inches thick. The grounds include a stone terrace built in 1943 over a bomb shelter, a stone gateway, and a three-car garage. Aluminum storm windows were added around 1960, and the wood shake roof was replaced in 2000 after hail damage.
Historical context
The Geesey family owned the house from 1941 to 1969 and added a swimming pool in 1956. The house was finished in 1941, the same year York saw 159 new houses built citywide.
