Sistersville

Tyler County · W. Va. 2 and W. Va. 18 · location approximate

Charles Wells settled here in 1776 and the first county court was held at his home. The town was named in 1815 for the Wells sisters and was incorporated in 1839. A ferry across the Ohio was established here in 1818.

1937 text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native and Black people, and tells frontier history from the settler's side.
