To the west at McFarlan in 1769, Jesse Hughes and party routed a band of Indians. To the north on Indian Creek in 1781, Colonel William Lowther led a party which killed five Indians and rescued Tygarts Valley white captives.

1937 text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native and Black people, and tells frontier history from the settler's side.
