Beckley

Named for General Alfred Beckley, who was called the "Father of Raleigh County." His mansion, "Wildwood," was built, 1837. John Beckley, his father, clerk of the House in terms of Washington, Adams, and Jefferson, owned land here.

1937 text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native and Black people, and tells frontier history from the settler's side.
