Edwin L. Drake -- 1819-1880 -- Founder of the Oil Industry
Drilling the first modern oil well in the United States on August 27, 1859, at Titusville, Pennsylvania, Drake struck oil at 69 feet and launched one of the worlds great industries. On farm on Drake Road, near this spot, he lived as a boy and attended the local schools.
