ANN STORY

Down this lane is the site of the Story log cabin, built in 1774. Ann Reynolds Story braved the wilderness as well as raids by the Tories and their Native American allies. She was eager to help the Green Mountain Boys, offering her services as a spy and messenger throughout the War for American Independence. Her cabin was their outpost and the Otter Creek cave that she created was the hiding place for supplies and gunpowder. Ann Story was an early frontier settler who demonstrated exemplary determination, courage, and grit.
