Kentucky The first permanent settlement was made at Harrodsburg in 1774. Kentucky County was establsihed in 1776 and was represented in the Virginia Legislature by Daniel Boone. Kentucky was admitted to the Union as the 15th state in 1792. Buchanan County Formed in 1858 from Tazewell and Russell and named for James Buchanan, President of the United States, 1857-1861.
