Coan River
This is a head stream of the Coan River, which flows into the Potomac. On this river Captain John Smith had an encounter with Indians in 1608. Marylanders Marylanders made the first settlement in this region about 1640. In October, 1814, a force of British troops came up the Coan River and marched to Heathsville.
