Fort James
A mile and a half south stood Moysonec, an Indian village occupied in 1607. This was the region of the Chickahominy tribe, members of which took part, in 1607, in the capture of Captain John Smith. There Fort James was established in 1645 after the great Indian massacre of 1644 in which several hundred colonists perished.
