Rockfish Gap Meeting
In the tavern near here the commission appointed to select a site for the University of Virginia met, August 1-4, 1818. Ex-President Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe and Judge Spencer Roane were the most distinguished members. After considering several places, Charlottesville was chosen.
