Castleman's Ferry Fight

Near here General Early, in July, 1864, returning from his Washington raid, was attacked by Crook, who forced a passage of the Shenandoah. Early, counterattacking, drove the Unionists back across the river. Rutherford B. Hayes, later President of the United States, commanded a brigade of Union troops.
