Trading Station and Tavern
One block north and one block west is the traditional site of the station where Peter Jones, for whom Petersburg probably was named, traded with the Indians. It was established before 1675. There also is the colonial Durell's, or Golden Ball, Tavern, where British officers were quartered in the occupation of 1781.
