A. P. Hill, in the afternoon of June 27, 1862, moved down this slope, crossed the creek and repeatedly charged the hill to the east, only to be driven back. Lee sent in Longstreet on Hill's right; but the position was not taken until Jackson, on the north, joined in the attack.
