Peytonsburg
This place, fifteen miles east, was a village in 1752, when Halifax County was formed. It was established as a town in 1759, and fell within Pittsylvania when that county was formed in 1767. Canteens were made there for Greene's army in 1780-81. Washington stopped there on his Southern tour, June 4, 1791.
