John S. Barbour's Birthplace
Just to the south stood "Catalpa", birthplace of John Strode Barbour, December 29, 1820. Barbour was a member of the House of Representatives; chairman of the state Democratic committee 1883-90; United States Senator, March 4, 1889 until his death on May 14, 1892.
