Cavalry Engagement
Near here J. E. B. Stuart, while fighting the Union cavalryman, Buford, was attacked in the rear by another cavalry force under Kilpatrick. Stuart, turning on Kilpatrick, cut his way out, September 22, 1863. Buford pursued him to the Rapidan River.
