Given its name by William Wyatt in 1868, Sycamore Landing became a major shipping point on the Tennessee River for peanuts, crossties, and other local farm products. Business partners W. H. (Bud) Fowlkes and Harris White Hooper built the general store and warehouse around 1890. Successive owners continuted to operate the store building until it closed in 1968. Continued In 1918 a post office was established at Sycamore Landing, and John W. Anderson served as the first postmaster. From the 1920s until the early 1940s, mail was transported to the post office by motorboat from Johnsonville. In 1953 the post office was closed, and mail serviced moved to Bakerville. Sycamore Landing was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on January 4, 1980.
