Built on the banks of Beaverdam Creek c. 1819-1820, “Lonesome” is a pioneer log cabin thought to be one of the oldest residences in Dickson County. It was built for William Austin (1790-1876), a veteran of the War of 1812, and his wife Dicy Horner Austin (1800-1884). Their pioneer families migrated to Dickson County from North Carolina by 1808. One room of the two-room “dog-trot” cabin was demolished after the Civil War. This site includes the Austin family cemetery.

Maps this old were drawn largely by eye, so places on them can sit miles from where they really are. The pin is ours and marks the marker's location today.
