The Hardison family settled in this part of Maury County around 1805 and built Hardison's Mill in 1820. They established a store and post office in 1844. After a flood in 1870, Calvin and Sarah Hardison rebuilt the existing farmhouse and the family mill that remained in operation until 1950. In the late 1800s, their youngest daughters Mollie and Veva Hardison were songwriters and teachers at the Hardison Mill School.

Maps this old were drawn largely by eye, so places on them can sit miles from where they really are. The pin is ours and marks the marker's location today.

Example

For example, one family's tree showed the Articles of Confederation marker in Pennsylvania standing under a mile from where William Gabby lived in the 1760s.

What that marker records spans 1777 to 1789, overlapping William Gabby's years there.
