Allen Honeycutt gave land in 1876 to the Cincinnati Southern Railroad to build a railroad terminal that was completed four years later. The station was named Honeycutt for its benefactor and first settler. In 1911, the town was incorporated and renamed Oakdale for an iron works at Elverton, which had been connected to Honeycutt by a narrow gauge railroad. The railroad YMCA, also know as Babahatchie Inn, was purported to have been at one time second in the United States for the number of men housed and fed. Floods, fire and automation reduced Oakdale from its previous grandeur.
