Approximately four-tenths of a mile southwest of here once stood the Line Springs Hotel, a prominent resort known for its mineral springs which were believed to have healing powers. Alfred M. Line purchased the land that included the mineral springs in 1824. He sold the property to the Rev. James Lawson, whose son, Dan, built the hotel in 1910. The hotel operated for 50 years, reaching its peak in popularity during the 1920s.
