A member of Watauga Association 1772, he served with Bledsoe in 1777. In 1778 he took the Oath of Allegiance to the state in Washington District Court of N.C. He joined the Mountain Men of John Sevier at King's Mountain and was later at the Battle of Boyd's Creek. He was deputy from Washington County to meet in convention at Jonesboro in 1784. The Treaty of Dumplin Creek was held at the home of Major Henry on June 10, 1785. He is buried in Henry Cemetery.

Maps this old were drawn largely by eye, so places on them can sit miles from where they really are. The pin is ours and marks the marker's location today.

Example

For example, one family's tree showed the Articles of Confederation marker in Pennsylvania standing under a mile from where William Gabby lived in the 1760s.

What that marker records spans 1777 to 1789, overlapping William Gabby's years there.
