Here, where Stony Creek empties into Watauga River, corn, wheat, wrought iron and other products were loaded into flat boats for shipment in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. Emigrants, with gear and families, also embarked here for westward travel. The brick house nearby was built by Christian Carriger, son of the original settler, Godfrey, Sr.
