Tradition holds that Immanuel Lutheran Church, organized in 1793 by German immigrants, is the oldest Lutheran Church in Tennessee. Built with brick made by Can Pottery, the church contains an 1864 Belgium-produced bell. Before the erection of the 1903 present0day building, three other structures were on the site. Immanuel has served as a center in the community and was used for several years as a school.

Maps this old were drawn largely by eye, so places on them can sit miles from where they really are. The pin is ours and marks the marker's location today.

Example

For example, one family's tree showed the Articles of Confederation marker in Pennsylvania standing under a mile from where William Gabby lived in the 1760s.

What that marker records spans 1777 to 1789, overlapping William Gabby's years there.
