Organized on April 20, 1794, the first Baptist congregation in Johnson County was known as the Roan Creek Church of Christ. Originally located near Shouns, the church sponsored by the congregation of the Three Forks Baptist Church in Watauga County, North Carolina. In 1843 the church moved to the present site. By 1950, it had become known as the First Baptist Church of Mountain City.

Maps this old were drawn largely by eye, so places on them can sit miles from where they really are. The pin is ours and marks the marker's location today.

Example

For example, one family's tree showed the Articles of Confederation marker in Pennsylvania standing under a mile from where William Gabby lived in the 1760s.

What that marker records spans 1777 to 1789, overlapping William Gabby's years there.
