Front: Established as the 55th Aero Construction Squadron in 1917, the 55th was assigned to Shaw AFB from 1946-1951 and returned in 1994. During their 100 year history, the squadron participated in combat operations in the European Theater for both WWI and WWII, and provided nuclear deterrence during the Cold War. The squadron also participated in the Gulf War, Operations Northern and Southern Watch, and Iraqi Freedom. Reverse: The 55th Squadron earned WWI and WWII service streamers, as well as WWII: Air Offensive Europe; Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland; Ardennes-Alsace; Central Europe; Air Combat, European-African-Mid Eastern Campaign streamers. Since 1991 they earned SW Asia: Defense of Saudi Arabia; SW Asia Ceasefire; Iraqi Surge, Iraqi Sovereignty; New Dawn Campaign streamers, and the Global War on Terrorism expeditionary streamer.
