Saluda High School

Front: This campus was built in 1950 to house Saluda High School. Chartered in 1898 to serve white residents of the town of Saluda, the school stood east of this site from 1937-50 on a campus that previously served as Saluda Grammar School until being expanded by the Works Progress Administration. The facility built here in 1950 was designed by architect Harold Woodward. Reverse: The new Saluda High School was part of a national wave of postwar school construction. A junior high wing was added in 1956. Saluda County schools began desegregating in 1965, and this became a countywide high school in 1974-75 as part of continuing efforts at integration. Saluda High School moved to a new campus east of town in 2001, when this site became Saluda Elementary School.
