Eutawville Railroad

Front: The Eutawville Railroad opened in Jan. 1886 with a 12 mi.-trek that ended at this site. Chartered 1884, the line began south of here at Pregnall’s where it joined the South Carolina Railway and connected to Charleston. It was extended further north from Holly Hill and renamed the Charleston, Sumter & Northern Railroad in 1889. The C. S. & N. RR was acquired by Atlantic Coast Line in 1895. Reverse: The first Holly Hill Depot was built here in 1885-86 by the Eutawville Railroad. The line’s arrival spurred local commerce and helped fuel the growth of the town, which incorporated in 1887. A second depot was built c.1901. The current building on the site was Holly Hill’s first brick depot and likely dates to c.1920. A loading platform and wooden shed that once extended from the depot’s north side no longer stand. The building was owned by the railroad until 1988.
